Co-codamol can be used to treat a number of ailments.
They are mostly used for:
- Headaches,
- Migraines,
- Muscular pain,
- To ease symptoms of cold and flu
Warnings and Precautions
- Children under 12 are not to be given or take this medication as they could be at risk of severe breathing problems with this medication.
- Keep out of sight and reach of children.
- Can cause Addiction. Use For NO MORE THAN 3 DAYS.
Do not take if:
- You are under the age of 18 and have had your tonsils or adenoids removed due to obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome
- You know that you metabolise codeine into morphine very rapidly
- You are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients this medication contains
- You take medicines used to thin the blood such as warfarin.
- You take Metoclopramide or domperidone – used to stop you feeling sick (nausea) or being sick (vomiting).
- You take Colestyramine – for lowering blood cholesterol levels.
Speak to your GP or Pharmacist before use if:
- Have severe kidney or liver problems.
- Have non-cirrhotic alcoholic liver disease.

What are the side effects of Co-Codamol 8/500Mg Effervescent?
Possible side effects:
- Serious skin reactions
- Severe stomach pain which may reach through to your back. (This could be a sign of inflammation of the pancreas)
- Constipation
- Nausea, vomiting
- Dizziness, light-headedness, drowsiness, confusion
- Difficulty passing water
- Becoming dependent on codeine
- More infections or bruising than usual
- Swelling in hands, feet, ankles, face, lips, or throat may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing. You may also notice hives or nettle rash. This would indicate an allergic reaction to co-codamol.
